National Contemporary Art Award
Te Whare Taonga o Waikato Museum & Gallery has announced that entries are open now for the National Contemporary Art Award 2025. With a cash prize pool of more than $30,000, the National Contemporary Art Award competition has brought the cutting edge of New Zealand art to Hamilton since it was established in 2000.
The judge for 2025 will be acclaimed curator and writer Nigel Borell. He has had an active role in the arts and culture sector spanning the past 25 years and was made a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit in 2022.
To enter the award you will need to supply two artist statements and at least one photograph of your entire work ( Yes Print Art can help you out with this! ) This primary image will also be used in the exhibition catalogue if your work is selected as a finalist. You can also upload as many as four supporting images to show further detail of your work to the judge.
Entry is open to all permanent New Zealand residents and citizens
Entries close: 1pm Thursday 1 May | The winners prize is $20,000.
Runner-up prize of $7,500 | Two merit awards of $1,000 each
The entry fee is $50.00 per entry

Are you wanting to have a little more control over your digitised image?
Well here’s your chance! Our new RAW capture service is designed for artists or professionals who want a little more of a “hands on” DIY approach. So if you prefer to handle the post-processing of your capture this option is for you!!
We will send you the high-resolution RAW (aprox 100mb) file and a custom ICC camera profile developed to match the lighting environment your artwork is captured in…and you can do the tweaks you want to. This can help you keep your budget slightly down and give you full control!
For those of you not confident in this area we do still of course offer our full artwork digitisation service including colour correction and proof print.
Waitakere 60th Awards Exhibition
Join in the celebrations! The Awards Exhibition showcases new work created by talented members. All exhibited art is for sale and stays up for viewing throughout the show. There will also be a pop-up Art Market space. Artists are encouraged to be on site and demonstrate or chat with visitors and pop-up workshops that visitors may take part in over the weekends.

Tasman National Art Awards
These are open to artists from all over New Zealand. Judges will be looking for technical expertise and creative excellence. They will also be looking for a magical combination of technique, emotional content, mood and perspective. This years judges are Julie Battisti, Brendan McGorry and Rebekah Codlin
The prizes have a total value of $16,000 with a supreme award of $5500
Entries open 2nd May & close 11.59pm Monday 30th June 2025.
To be eligible for selection, a digital image of your work must be emailed along with the Official Entry Form.

National Your Art Awards
National Youth Art Award 2025 are open to all New Zealand visual artists aged 13 to 23 years old in any medium. This year a new awards category has been announced. The Sustainability Award sponsored by Hamilton City Council. “This award is looking for art that encourages the public to think about:
- The impact of our lifestyles and the waste we generate on Papatūānuku (Earth).
- What a sustainable future looks like.
Entries are limited to 2 entries per artist and all entries must be for sale.
3 high-quality images of the work and an artist’s statement are to be included in the entry.
Entries close 1 June 2025
Entry fees:
13-14 years $15 for 1 entry or $20 for 2 entries
15-23 years $20 for 1 entry $35 for 2 entries
