Auckland Festival of Photography held from 29 May – 15 June  is NZ’s leading international photographic art & cultural Festival held across Auckland.
The theme for 2025 is  ‘Sustain’ [tautīnei]
The festival is open to any project created through the medium of photography and encourage active participation from a broad spectrum of talent including professional, amateur and young photographers. 
There are three main ways to take part :
In-Venue – featuring all exhibitions, events and activations that take place inside a gallery, community space or any indoor area. During the festival dates In-Venue projects can take place anywhere across the Auckland Region, including but not limited to: Franklin, Papakura, Manukau, Waitakere, Auckland, North Shore & Rodney. Projects submitted for this key section should take place at least one week during the 2025 Festival dates: 29 May – 15 June 2025.
Online – This section includes all online participation via: YouTube; Instagram; Facebook; artist/gallery websites; Mozilla Hubs exhibitions; Zoom talks or online panel discussions; or other digital delivery of public content that suits your particular work, project, artists or group. Submissions are open globally! This includes all Auckland based artists, as well as NZ wide and internationally based artists. 
Outdoor –This section will feature all outdoor activity. Participation can include work shown in windows, on billboards, fences, in private spaces or public ones where permitted.

Gibbs Farm Visit For A Good Cause

Kumeū Arts is thrilled to offer an opportunity to visit Gibbs Farm Sculpture Park. Gibbs Farm  is a truly unique, world class, open-air sculpture park situated north of Auckland city with stunning views across the Kaipara Harbour. Home to 20+ major, site-specific artworks commissioned from artists including Andy Goldsworthy, Anish Kapoor, Richard Serra, Maya Lin, Jeff Thomson and many more.

Buying a ticket for our event means you will have an incredible experience and memorable day out, and raise valuable funds for our charity to support Kumeū Arts on-going operational costs.

Bring friends or colleagues and a picnic lunch and enjoy this extraordinary environment. The main walk is 6-7 km long – a 3-4 hour walking experience. However, you can choose to do as much or as little of this as you please.

The Auckland Arts Festival Opens

Artists on Artists  at Studio One Toi Tūis is a group portraiture show where each artist is the subject of another artist’s work — like links in a chain, follow the artworks around the exhibition to see how each artist has painted, photographed and created work of another artist. The audience follows the artworks around the exhibition to see how each artist has painted, photographed and created work of another artist.

Featuring established and emerging artists from Aotearoa New Zealand.
Artists on Artists opening night – Friday 7th March, 5pm

Draw & Be Drawn,
an interactive life drawing event where you’ll be both the artist and the subject is part of the Artists on Artists exhibition. With easels arranged in a circle, each participant draws someone else in the circle, creating a unique experience that lets you hone your life drawing skills and connect with fellow artists and art enthusiasts. Basic drawing materials and easels are provided, but feel free to bring any specialist materials such as pens, charcoal, or pastels. All skill levels are welcome.

Olaf Eliasson: Your Curious Journey

Your curious journey by globally renowned artist Olafur Eliasson, marks the first solo showcase of the Icelandic-Danish artist in Aotearoa New Zealand.

This retrospective, highlights over 30 years of Eliasson’s practice, featuring installations, sculptures, and photographs that explore themes of human perception, experimentation, and environmental awareness.

Toi Koru

Toi Koru presents the first major survey exhibition of paintings by Dr Sandy Adsett MNZM (Ngāti Kahungunu, Ngāti Pāhauwera).Toi Koru tracks the trajectory of Adsett’s painting practice from the late 1960s to today. Born in 1939 on the family farm in Raupunga, a small Kahungunu (Ngāti Pāhauwera) Māori community on the East Coast of the North Island, Adsett has had a hugely successful international career as an artist. Adsett and his peers laid the foundation for subsequent generations of Māori artists, curators, educators and museum professionals to pursue a career in the arts industry.

Jelena Telecki : Oil & Water

Jelena Telecki (b.1976) makes paintings, drawings, and sculptures that investigate the possibilities of representation and the ways it articulates the politics of personal and shared narratives. Oil and Water reflects on the first two decades of Telecki’s practice (2005–2025) through the development of a new suite of paintings, retracing the figures and ideas central to past works. Born in Yugoslavia, Telecki migrated to Australia in 1999 where she currently lives and works in Gadigal Nura Sydney. The events of this personal history are the foundation for the content and style of her work.

Photosynthesisers

Photosynthesisers: Women and lens is an exhibition of photographs and videos by 41 women artists and collectives from Aotearoa and Australia, including fa`afafine, queer, and trans women, and those with ancestral ties to Aboriginal, Māori, and diasporic communities. Produced between the 1960s and 2024 by four generations of artists, exhibited works collectively offer cross-cultural and intergenerational perspectives on the social, political, and cultural conditions that impelled their capture.
