Whanganui River Boat Captain

“We met Don on a Whanganui river cruise, he was the skipper of the Waimarie . I loved his almost smile and obvious pleasure in taking travellers up and down the river. I wanted to keep it very dark with highlights on Dons hands and face . Because it was so dark it has a watercolour under the pastel, on watercolour paper.

I have been doing watercolour and pastel art for about 20 years after a graphic art career. I live in Titirangi and paint a lot of birds  but will paint any subject that I would enjoy looking at for weeks (as my detailed style takes along time to complete). Being a descendant of Charles Blomfield, art has always been important to my family as my dad, grandfather and uncle all painted. “
